About the Team

Our team is a competitive club sport at Villanova University. We compete in the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) against other schools that are both on a club and varsity level.

Everyone on the team shares a common love for the water and sailing. The team is comprised of sailors of all levels, and we all share the common goal of improving our sailing skills and racing abilities.

History

The team was originally started in the 1980s and came back into existence in 2004. Since then the team has been working hard to sustain itself and to be competitive in our division.

Facilities & Boats

We are now practicing out of Corinthian Yacht Club in Essington, PA. The club is about 17 miles from Villanova's campus. We are currently leasing six 420s. Corinthian Yacht Club is one of the best sailing facilitates in Philadelphia and is also the same location that both UPenn and Drexel practice from. This provides us with the opportunity to hold joint practices with both of these teams.

Coaches

We are pleased to welcome our new head coach, Matt Newborn, to the Villanova Sailing Team. He has extensive experience in both dingy and big boat sailing. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 2010 and ran their sailing program during his time as a Hokie. He has a lot to offer your team and we are really happy to have him onboard.

In addition, our previous coach, Craig Priniski, will be staying on as an assistant coach. He is largely responsible for the start-up of the team in 2004. We are very grateful for all the hard work that he has contributed over the years.
