Villanova’s first regatta of the season was also the first Central Area qualifier for the War Trophy. With limited practices prior to the regatta Villanova took to the water just in time to see a 20 knot blast from a passing shower knock over a portion of the fleet. It didn’t get much easier as the day wore on. Sailing two divisions simultaneously in changeling conditions is tough on the sailors especially given the ‘Tech dinghy’s propensity to swamp and turn into a semi-submersible sailboat. Even with a couple dips into the Toms River Villanova was within striking distance of qualifying at the end of the first day.
